Connect an MCP client
Add your server to claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code or VS Code.
Every server has one address, https://<slug>.sokie.cloud/mcp. sokie deploy prints it, and the server's page in the app shows it at the top with a copy button. Every client below takes that address.
For a private server, the client signs in to Sokie the first time it connects. Your browser opens a Sokie page asking whether to connect the app to your server; choose Allow. Nobody copies a token. Today only a server's owner can approve a client, because teams aren't built yet. A public server needs no sign-in at all. How clients sign in explains both.
claude.ai
- Open Settings, then Connectors.
- Add a custom connector, and paste your server's address.
- Connect it, and approve it on the Sokie page that opens.
The Claude desktop and mobile apps use the same connectors as claude.ai.
ChatGPT
Add a custom connector with your server's address, then approve it on the Sokie page that opens. ChatGPT keeps custom connectors behind its developer mode; where that setting lives depends on your plan, so look under Settings for connectors.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http petstore https://majestic-lobster-123.sokie.cloud/mcp
Use your own address, and any name in place of petstore. Then run /mcp inside Claude Code and choose the server to sign in.
Cursor
Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or to .cursor/mcp.json in one project:
{
"mcpServers": {
"petstore": {
"url": "https://majestic-lobster-123.sokie.cloud/mcp"
}
}
}Cursor lists it under MCP in its settings, where you sign in.
VS Code and GitHub Copilot
Add the server to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace:
{
"servers": {
"petstore": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://majestic-lobster-123.sokie.cloud/mcp"
}
}
}Start it from the file, sign in when VS Code asks, and Copilot's agent mode can use its tools.
When a tool asks for your key
If the server's API takes a key from each person who connects, the first call that needs one stops and the client shows you a link to Sokie instead. The page asks you to add your key for the server. Paste it, choose Save key, then run the call again in your client.
Clients that can't open a link show the address as text. Reconnecting or signing in again won't help: the key has to be saved on that page. If the API later refuses the key, the next call sends you back there to save a new one. You can replace or remove it on the same page at any time.
Disconnect a client
Open Settings in the app, then Connected clients, and choose Disconnect next to the client. It can no longer renew its access, so it's cut off within 15 minutes, and it has to be approved again to reconnect.
